Do you know why we celebrate Tulsi Puja on 25 Dec? Tulsi grows in all parts of India and many Hindus plant it at home as an auspicious practice. Tulsi carries great importance\u2014not only in religion, spirituality, and culture, but also for health and environmental protection. According to Sanatan scriptures, when a house keeps a Tulsi plant, spiritual progress, peace, happiness, and prosperity naturally follow. Tulsi purifies the environment, reduces pollution, and strengthens family health. In 2014, the globally revered saint Shri Asharamji Bapu initiated Tulsi Pujan Diwas (a day to worship Tulsi) on 25th December, and it has now grown into a worldwide festival.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Several reports note that from December 25 to January 1, crimes, accidents, suicides, and animal slaughter increase, largely because some people indulge in intoxicants and pleasure-seeking during celebrations. India\u2019s oldest apex chamber, ASSOCHAM, reports that alcohol consumption during this period triples, and even teenagers aged 14\u201319 join in. As a result, crimes, accidents, rape cases, diseases, and suicides rise. For years, this trend grew and raised serious alarms among well-wishers of society, the nation, and humanity. In 2014, Sant Shri Asharamji Bapu started the Divine Tradition of Tulsi Pujan Diwas on 25th December and launched the Vishwaguru Bharat Abhiyan through January 1. He envisioned that Tulsi\u2019s medicinal, spiritual, and environmental benefits would uplift society at large.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u00a0Mother Tulsi holds a paramount place in Indian culture. Hindus use Tulsi leaves in every holy act, especially when offering Naivedya (pious food) to the Lord. In the Gita, Lord Shri Krishna says that if someone offers Him even a single Tulsi leaf with love, He accepts it with love. People often call Tulsi a \u201cwonder drug.\u201d Consuming Tulsi helps cure more than 800 types of ailments. Pujya Sant Shri Asharamji Bapu teaches: when we perform japa and dhyan near Tulsi, the results multiply. Anyone who wears a Tulsi mala around the neck remains safe\u2014even from Yama\u2019s servants.<\/p>

The Skanda Purana says: if a house keeps and worships a grove of Tulsi daily, Yama\u2019s servants do not approach that home. The Brahma Vaivarta Purana (Prakriti Khanda: 21.43) states: when devotees pour water with a Tulsi leaf into a dying person\u2019s mouth, the Lord relieves that person of all sins and guides him to Vaikuntha (the abode of Lord Vishnu).<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In this context, Pujya Bapuji serves society by starting Tulsi Pujan Diwas, guiding people toward healthier, happier, and more dignified lives through Tulsi\u2019s benefits. He encourages us to see the same divine presence in trees and awaken our own divinity.<\/p>

During these days, sellers flood markets with items that promote blind superstition\u2014red hats, plastic trees, and more. Shopkeepers and mall owners decorate their spaces with such items to create a festive atmosphere and attract customers, especially children, by displaying these colorful materials. Reliable sources also observe that during the December 25 celebrations, the consumption of intoxicants, including alcohol, rises. Inspired by Pujya Sant Shri Asharamji Bapu, thousands of Shri Yoga Vedanta Seva Samitis, Bal Sanskar Kendras, Mahila Utthan Mandals, and Youth Seva Sanghs promote Tulsi Pujan Diwas on 25th December in India and abroad, and they begin the celebrations almost a month in advance. Tulsi acts as an excellent antidepressant; it boosts zest, agility, and sattvikta (positive vibes). Therefore, celebrating this festival during these days benefits society immensely.<\/p>

Tulsi appears in numerous vrata legends, religious stories, and the Puranas. Devotees do not consider the worship of Lord Vishnu or Krishna complete without offering Tulsi leaves.
